What precautions do I need to take?

Before installation or maintenance, or before putting your hands into the aquarium, remove the power supply from all the electrical devices under water. Read the instructions.

Before installation

Check that all the components of the product are undamaged, disconnect all the electrical devices and make sure the voltage of the product corresponds to the mains voltage.

What is the purpose of the product?

This is an aquarium pump for internal use only, with water of a temperature of up to 35°C (95°F).

Do I have to be careful with the ultra-powerful rare-earth magnets?

Absolutely. In addition to the risk of catching your fingers because of the high level of magnetic pull between the two parts of the support, these parts may attract blades, sharp objects or other magnets, causing accidental injury. Magnets can also cause permanent damage to electronic equipment (e.g. LCD screens) and other objects sensitive to magnetic fields, such as heart pacemakers, credit cards and keys. Always keep a distance of at least 30 cm (12 inches), and always keep out of the reach of children.

Is it true that some marine species can damage the electrical cable?

Yes. Sea urchins, triggerfish and other fish with strong jaws can damage or consume electrical cables. This is why the product comes with a plastic cable protector.

What thickness of glass can the magnetic support of the Koralia MAGNUM be used on?

Up to 20 mm (0.8 inches)

What maintenance operations does the Koralia MAGNUM pump require?

Maintenance consists of cleaning the motor and the rotor, and if necessary removing the limescale that normally builds up in reef aquariums.

I feel it's a shame to remove the calcareous algae from the pump…

Attractive as they may be to look at, limestone formations on the pump can affect performance, and can cause the impeller to malfunction, with start-up of the rotor in the wrong direction. Problems with the impeller wearing out have also been reported as a result of continuous contact with this kind of limestone formations.

What kind of "decalcification" product should I use?

NEVER use chemical products for ovens, cookers or washing machines! Use only vinegar or lemon juice, or muriatic acid, with particular caution.

My aquarium is some distance from the plug socket. How long are the power supply cables?

2.4 metres, except for North America, where they are 6 feet long (approx. 2 metres).

I've heard that the pump has an electronic safety system.

That's right. The AHS (Anti-Heating System) is an electronic system that allows the KORALIA MAGNUM pumps to detect a block in the rotor, and, after three failed attempts to prime it, removes the power supply from the pump, so that the motor - which is of a size appropriate to its performance - does not overheat and damage the internal circuits.

My Koralia MAGNUM is clean, but it starts up in the wrong direction.

Disassemble it, clean the rotor and the rotor holder and remove any crusting inside the pump.

My Koralia MAGNUM is perfectly clean and starts up without any problem, but it vibrates and is noisy.

Check that the front chamber of the pump is properly screwed into place (bayonet fitting). If it is, then clean the pump thoroughly.

My Koralia MAGNUM pump has stopped working. What can I do?

If the rotor of the pump blocks, the electronic AHS system is set in motion, when the anomaly is detected and after three attempts at priming, the power supply is cut off from the pump. To restart the pump, carry out the following operations: a) disconnect all the devices under water from the mains; b) remove the motor unit and disassemble the pump to find out the reason the rotor has blocked; c) perform the necessary maintenance operations.; d) re-assemble the components and connect the pump to the mains.

I want to recreate the effect of the waves in my reef aquarium. Can I set a timer on my Koralia MAGNUM?

Certainly. For this purpose, Hydor has developed Smart Wave Controller, a special instrument for setting a timer on the Koralia pumps, from 5 seconds to 6 hours.

How should I schedule maintenance operations for my Koralia Magnum?

Maintenance operations should be carried out with the following frequency: A) Once a month for the rotor, inner pump body, bushings and O-ring: B) once every three months for the grids on the upper and lower chambers.
